OCTOBER 2019
The Passions Behind the People
Each month we will be sharing the passions behind the people in the DMC Network...
This month the spotlight is on Chris Baker, Director of Global Sales in the DMC Network.
The memory...
Late 1999, when I was working in Boston as a Client Relationship Manager for a financial services company. My brother owned a DMC and we had discussed eventually teaming up and working together. What’s a program again? I said I would move to Chicago and give it a few years and if I didn’t like it, I would move back. That was almost 20 years ago…
The time of day...
In the morning! I like to get up early, before others arrive in the office, enjoying that first cup of coffee, planning out my day.
The smell...
Freshly cleaned sheets, right out of the dryer.
The book...
I’m a pretty avid reader. Give me a Nelson DeMille or John Grisham book and I’m a happy camper.
The pet...
No current pet, but grew up with black labs in our family. Our second black lab growing up in Louisville, Kentucky was named Bourbon. Just a great family dog.
The exercise...
I really enjoy exercise and try to do it as often as possible. Running helps clear my mind and give me energy. Golf, snow skiing, water skiing and basketball are all in the rotation. I’ve attempted to add Hot Yoga to the mix, still learning!
The TV Show...
Breaking Bad is still #1 in my book. I didn’t start watching until the end of the show, but binged the entire thing in a few weeks. Amazing. Honorable mention to The Americans on FX.
The music…
80’s and 90’s cheesy, up-beat music at the gym is always my favorite.
The necessity…
Coffee in the morning!
The luxury…
My snow blower. I live in New Hampshire and still get excited like a little kid when I get to use the snow blower to clear the drive way and sidewalk.
The piece of advice…
Never refuse a breath mint.
The quote…
“Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.”
The friend...
My brother, Scott Baker. We are only 16 months apart and both took a big chance on working together in this industry way back in 2000. Some minor bumps and growing pains in the road, but I wouldn’t change a thing!
The treat...
Bacon! Everything is better with Bacon!
The movie...
Animal House – still holds up after all these years.
The hobby…
Gardening is a new hobby for me. Seeing the results of your hard work during those summer months is priceless. Raking leaves and mulching are at the other end of the spectrum, yuck.
The vice…
Chocolate or bacon or chocolate covered bacon. I simply do not have the ability to say no.
The virtue…
Trustworthiness is very important to me. If I can’t trust you, there isn’t much to grow on…
The vacation…
Anywhere with a beach and the sun. Give me a good book or podcast and a beverage and I’m good for hours.
The dinner guests…
My extended family. We are all very busy these days and those times where we can unplug, catch up and laugh are priceless.
