The Passions Behind the People
Each month we will be sharing the passions behind the people in the DMC Network...
This month the spotlight is on Shannon Rodriguez, National Director of Business Development, Imprint Events Group, our DMC Company in Colorado, Orlando and Las Vegas.
The memory… I was working at my desk when Chris Starkey, (now one of Imprint Group’s owner) walked through the door to use the rehearsal space we had in our office. At that time, I worked for another company. Following right behind him were 6 drummers and 8 uniquely dressed hip hop dancers beaming with a creative energy that was so contagious I had stayed and watched their full, two-hour rehearsal. I had never seen anything like that (and mind you this was 16 years ago). From that point on, I knew I wanted to be in the event production and entertainment world, but the one creating and producing the show. I remember thinking, “everyone should feel this energy in their lifetime!”
The hobby… I recently started a vlog on my Facebook page called Walk the Talk by Shannon. It’s a space where I share stories and insights into my life, both inside and outside of work, because let’s be honest – it’s a never-ending journey of discovery. I am always learning, listening and reading about how to be better at what I do. I was a psychology major, so I feel like it’s a part of my DNA. Because life and business are never ending wells of information, I use my vlog to share my lessons I have learned over the years, inquire from those who know more than me and share with everyone who has a curiosity and passion to grow and learn. Follow along with me!
The time of day… the kids are in bed and my husband and I get to watch our favorite shows. I put my head on his chest and he rubs my head. I have yet to finish an episode… zzzzzzzzzzzz. “The best Jerry the best!”
The color… Orange has always been my color. It’s bright, happy and powerful! It somehow always brings a smile to my face and I feel great when I wear it. I also happen to live in the sunshine state!
The friend… My long-time friend Alicia who lives in Denver has seen me at my best and my worst. We are friends to the end, PIC’s (partner in crimes) and we laugh every time we talk. We now Marco Polo via my phone which I LOVE because I can see her smiling face. Marco!
The pet… Our oldest dog and Queen Bee of the house, Muffin, just got a sister, Cocoa. She is not fond of her just yet but is starting to see she has a built- in playmate.
The smell… my Dad’s Sunday Sauce. An Italian family recipe that has been carried from generation to generation. Trust me – nothing on this planet even compares!
The book… Diary of a Geisha. I mean c’mon, what a crazy way of life!
The piece of advice… At the end of the day, what matters most is our family and friends and the memories we create. When we are stressed out and overworked, I remember this to keep it all in perspective. I also incorporate silliness into almost everything I do!
The exercise… dance party USA! Doesn’t everyone do that on a Friday night with their family?
The alternate job… I am fascinated by TV marketing and how they incorporate colors into messaging to make a statement or emotion. I love the psychology of colors, body language and words and how they make people feel… would love to do that in my next life.
The taste… chocolate… dark. Nothing better!
The accessory… love bracelets. I had a brown leather bracelet I loved and wore everywhere, but it finally broke. So now, I just stack a bunch of them in fun colors. Why? Because they make me happy!
The TV show… Dexter. I know, I’m sick!
The quote… “all things come to those who wait”. Thanks mom – I waited, and it all happened the way it was supposed to.
