The Passions Behind the People
Each month we will be sharing the passions behind the people in the DMC Network. This month the spotlight is on Melissa Murray, Director of Operations and Quality at Mosaix Group, our DMC Affiliate in Asheville/Charlotte, North Carolina.
The memory... The laughter and amazing experiences we had as a family while traveling through Italy this spring. The memories are punctuated by gelato, biking through Tuscany, pasta, and, of course, more gelato.
The hobby... Let’s take to the mountains! Living in Asheville has allowed me to bike, run, and hike in some incredible areas. I’m also quite fond of tackling a triathlon or two (or three), though sometimes the triathlons tackle me.
The time of day... Sunsets have always been a favorite of mine. I will never tire of soaking in a breath-taking sunset. My least favorite time of day? Those frantic 30 minutes where the house is more chaotic than 4 alarm fire as I try to get three teenagers and one husband out the door to school and work.
The friend... My mom’s year-long battle with cancer has created an indelible bond between us. She is now in total remission but the ups, downs, laughs and tears from that year have brought us closer together than ever. A spa celebration at the end of chemo was an amazing finale and will be repeated every year.
The pet... Bring on the dogs! I am a true dog lover. Our dear Zuri Furry Murray, a goofy and loyal Goldendoodle, was a proud member of the Mosaix team for 8 years and is prominently featured on our website, with her own headshot and bio. Though she was most in love with our UPS driver, she was always a fantastic stress reliever for all, even at the most challenging times.
The smell... My favorite smell ever was each of my three babies after being bathed with baby shampoo followed by lotion. They are now very athletic teenagers; I really miss that baby smell!
The book... “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. It was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness.” I am a true sucker for classic literature. I love to curl up with my buddies, Dickens, Austen, Steinbeck and even Tolstoy. I believe that Good Night Moon should also be considered a classic!
The piece of advice... Gratitude is the key to happiness. If you can find something to be grateful for, it can change your moment, your day or your world.
The exercise... I am currently writing this on my treadmill desk! I love it; it helps me concentrate on those tough contracts and kicks that afternoon / after lunch slump.
The alternative job... When I grow up I would really love to become a college professor. I enjoy teaching / training others in a classroom setting.
The song... I recently had to compile my five all-time favorite five songs for a friendly gathering; it was hard to do! I narrowed it down to: “Going to California” by Led Zeppelin, “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie, “Boys of Summer” by Don Henley, “Who are You” by The Who and “How to Save a Life” by The Fray.
The taste... Let’s be honest: life would not be complete without dark chocolate…. every day.
The accessory... My family. I would not be much in this life without them. They make me who I am.
The TV show... Homeland, Downton Abbey for the drama, Arrested Development for some good, inappropriate laughs.
The quote... “Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.” - Oprah Winfrey
