ABOUT THIS CONTENT:
Welcome to our Nation’s Capital, Washington, DC! From monuments and memorials to vibrant neighborhoods filled with character and charm, DC is a memorable, world-class destination filled with breathtaking views, unique venues, award-winning hotels and hundreds of things to do – many of which are free! The city offers easy access and navigation through three airports, a world-class public transportation system, and your dedicated team of professionals at Capital City Events ready to plan an exceptional experience for you and your attendees.
The National Mall, comprised of a 3-mile loop from the United States Capitol Building to the Lincoln Memorial has more world-class attractions than most places have in their entire State. And today, you’re going to tackle it all! We’ll start the day with your certified tour guide leading the way to the many museums of the Smithsonian Institution. See the magnificent jewels, dinosaurs and mammals on display at the National Museum of Natural History, and hear about the curse of the Hope Diamond; delight in the airplanes and interactive flight simulators at the National Air and Space Museum; enjoy the stories, arts and crafts at the National Museum of the American Indian and the collection of truly priceless Americana on display at the National Museum of American History, including the Star Spangled Banner, Julia Child’s kitchen, Michael Jackson’s costumes, even the first ladies Inaugural gowns. There is truly something for everyone in the Smithsonian’s vast collections.
Time to enjoy lunch at a local favorite – Central Michel Richard. A stellar team inspired by the late Michelin Star chef Michel Richard and headed by David Deshaies craft some of the city’s best dishes (including spectacular desserts) at this convivial, visually interesting French-American bistro located on Washington’s Main Street, Pennsylvania Avenue. Hailed as a bargain for the quality, it features a broad menu that’s invariably delicious as it is unexpected. Classics such as decadent burgers and steak frites hit all the right spots, although the buttery crab pizza, Moroccan lamb pastilla or a bright salad of quinoa, pickled daikon, and coconut-ginger vinaigrette are delightful.
All fueled up after lunch, time to “Bike the Sites” and see the other half of the National Mall! With the wind in your hair and our licensed tour guide as your guide, you’ll set off on your bicycle for an afternoon of fun, monuments, and a breeze covering the monuments and memorials on the National Mall and Potomac Tidal Basin. See the Washington Monument, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, World War II Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, the new Martin Luther King Jr Memorial, and more. This tour also gives you the chance to walk around and explore the memorials in depth. There is a lot to see but we’ll get you there in this leisurely yet efficient tour.
Relax and unwind from your busy day with a sunset dinner cruise along the Potomac River. Savor each unforgettable moment aboard the exquisite, glass-enclosed yacht. Delight in a fabulous dinner as you drift past iconic D.C. landmarks such as the Jefferson Memorial, Georgetown waterfront and Lincoln Memorial. And if you have anything left after such a busy day, hit the dance floor and get your groove on to the live band on deck. It’s always a magical time to sail under the moonlight along the Potomac River.
Morning & Lunch
Rise and shine to your private yoga class in the hotel. The yoga session will focus on bringing guests towards a balanced mind, body, and spirit! Led by a popular Washington yoga instructor and personal fitness trainer, you’ll begin with a brief meditation and centering with focus on the breath to calm the body and mind. Participants will then gradually move into a series of postures to warm up the spine as they continue to more challenging postures designed to heat the body. Warmed up and ready for the day? Let’s go! So much more awaits you!
First stop – breakfast at Bread Furst, Mark Furstenberg’s bakery, widely considered the best in the city, serving up delicious baked goods and wonderful savory options. Past the piles of glowing golden croissants and tempting pain au chocolat, grab the breakfast banh mi sandwich or try the locals’ favorites, the frittata or the true-to-its-name messy egg sandwich.
Next stop, enjoy a docent led tour of Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens in Upper Northwest, the grand estate of Post Cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. Marvel at her dazzling collections of Russian Imperial artifacts and French decorative art. Wander through 13 acres of formal gardens and stop for lunch in the Hillwood Café. Hillwood is one of Washington’s hidden gems you’ll be excited you experienced.
We’ll go undercover at the International Spy Museum, where you can crack codes, take on covers and even lead a covert operation. Across the street, we’ll stop by the National Portrait Gallery and Smithsonian American Art Museum to see portraits of some of the country's most famous historical figures, including the recently unveiled official portrait of President Barak Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. The paintings — Mr. Obama’s by Kehinde Wiley and Mrs. Obama’s by Amy Sherald — elicit strong reactions for their striking use of colors and the backgrounds in which the Obamas were set.
We’ll finish the day with a once in a lifetime opportunity to enjoy an after-hours, behind the scenes tour of the United States Capitol building. Hosted by a former member of Congress, you’ll experience the ornately painted Burmidi Corridors, Statuary Hall and Rotunda, all without a tourist in sight. When Congress is not in session, you will have the rare opportunity to not only view the House of Representatives chamber but sit in the Members’ chairs on the “floor” of the House and hear more fascinating facts and real-life stories from our Congressional host.
A short walk from the Capitol, dinner awaits at Rose’s Luxury, the Michelin starred restaurant and locals’ favorites on Capitol Hill. Despite its prime Capitol Hill location, there’s nothing buttoned up about Rose’s Luxury. Tucked inside a row house, the cozy-yet-contemporary space is industrial-chic to a tee with bare plywood banquettes, concrete accents, and strings of lights and serves up some of Washington’s unique dining experiences.
Finally, a quick tour of the Monuments by Moonlight on our way back to the hotel caps off a busy day in our capital city!
We loved spending time with you in our Nation’s Capital! Our team of transportation professionals will ensure your vehicle is ready when you are as you ride in style to the airport or train station for your trip home.
Have a safe trip! We hope to see you again soon!
